THIS LaND mUSIC VIDEO

DIRECTION | 2025

I was invited by 2K , through Tongal, to direct the official music video for “This Land” by Des Rocs, the main theme for Borderlands 4. The project explored the intersection of Des Rocs’ visceral punk rock energy and digital game aesthetics to make a high octane music video.

CONCEPT

The goal for this project was to merge my digitally driven visual language, closely tied to the video game world, with Des Rocs’ raw punk rock aesthetic.

To meet in the middle, I developed a “Digital Grit” approach — combining the clean precision of digital visuals with the raw imperfections and chaotic energy of grit.

With this direction established, I partnered with Sam Samionato to develop a set of style frames that served as a visual baseline, helping communicate how the aesthetic would be more deliberately applied to the footage captured of Des Rocs.

SONG SECTIONING

Ahead of production, the song was carefully analyzed and broken down into multiple sections, allowing each part to be approached individually. This process also helped plan how the visuals would build or release energy throughout the track.

STILL FRAMES

With the structure in place, we developed still frames and early animation tests to visualize the piece as a whole — establishing key creative directions like brighter whites with slower movement for the verses, and deeper reds with dynamic cuts for the choruses.
